Gay is a native Galwegian who specialises in welded sculpture. He uses Brass, Copper and Steel.

He has had no formal training, but uses his own natural talents to produce his sculptures which include Currachs, Birds, Musicians and Characters in various poses. His great strength is the simplicity of his images.

He has exhibited in various locations around Galway, including Kenny Art Gallery, Castle Ellen, Athenry and with the Galway Art Club.

Both Gay and his brother Patsy had a joint exhibition, “Earth & Steel” in the Kenny Gallery which featured both Painting and Sculpture. They have also combined their talents to produce a larger than life sculpture of Jack Charlton, which was created from used oil drums and is on permanent display in the garage where they both work.
